What Are Speech Therapy Techniques?

Child speech therapy is a topic that is not widely discussed. Many people try to avoid the topic in the case of discussions. However, having discussions can help in solving the speech problems of thousands of people. Many patients are trying to cure their speech-related problems but due to society, they’ve to face anxiety. In many cases, the problem of bad speech or accent is from birth while in a few cases the problem arises due to accidents or brain injuries. Taking the right decision at right time can help in solving issues quickly.

Speech therapy Toronto has many techniques. The therapy to provide is decided according to the severity of the organisation. However, in covid-19, the process of online speech therapy is widely preferred. That’s because people who are already facing problems because of speech don’t have to face the people. Within a few weeks, senior therapy Toronto and adult speech therapy start normalising the accent. Now with the help of accent reduction, the accent is improved. This accent reduction therapy is also for people who are facing problems in learning other accents. Now let’s study some speech therapy techniques:

Articulation therapy: Articulation therapy is the most basic speech therapy. In this therapy, the therapist focuses on the sound of the patient. He makes sure that the patient should be able to produce certain sounds. These sounds are important to conduct the next techniques. This therapy is mostly used in case of severe injuries.

Language intervention therapy: Now when a patient is able to produce sound, he is given therapy of language intervention. In this therapy, the patient develops speech abilities with the help of some words. For example, he is given to read a speech loudly. With time all the problems like speech delay, difficulties in speaking words are encountered. By correcting the pronunciations and through regular practices, these problems are encountered. In the first phase the informal therapy helps in developing the words and in the second phase, the speech is checked formally.

Oral-motor therapy: Now when the patient is able to speak some words correctly, he is given oral-motor therapy. The goals of exercising this therapy are to make the patient go through regular practices. He has to start controlling his speech. For example, if he is able to speak many words but while speaking quickly, he might be encountering some problems. This type of technique is also commonly used but the process is time-consuming. Many people who suffer from injuries have to control the speech. This technique may take weeks but the guidance of the therapist is only required once.

Vital-Stim therapy: This type of therapy is given to the problems faced in eating, swallowing and difficulty in breathing. This strategy is used with other strategies as in mixture to increase the effectiveness. For example neck exercises with the help of electric simulations. This way the neck recovery increases.

Note: This therapy requires the specialization of the doctor. Don’t do any neck exercise in the doctor’s absence otherwise, the problem may become severe.

LSVT: LSVT is an acronym used for Lee Silverman Speech Therapy. The same treatment is used to improve the speech of patients. Many aspects like breathability and volume are checked. LSVT is proven effective for speech ability. The therapy is new and enhances the strength of muscles for strong vocal control.

Conclusion: These speech therapies are developed with time. They should not be used in absence of the doctor. To clear the doubts of people, many medical companies have started providing free initial consultation. Patients just have to call the helpline numbers and as per convenience, they can meet them.
